What is wrong with the Authority?

In the eyes of the Authority we are no longer people, no longer independent citizens, we are just profiles, pieces of data to be processed and rationalized. Democracy 2.0 was meant to set us free. No longer would man have to wade through an ever rising tide of information carrying the heavy burden of the decision maker. Democracy 2.0 used artificial information and the sea of data around is to pull humanity back from the precipice. We were facing economic and environmental collapse, war and famine. The success of democracy 2.0 allowed us to free ourselves from responsibility, why stay informed if you no longer had to make any important decision yourself, when the system - with access to more information that you could ever know, more processing power than you could ever imagine – could intuit what you would have decided anyway. So we became complacent and as our complacency grew so did the power of the system, which came to be known simply as the Authority. Before we knew it the few dissenting voices started to disappear, surveillance increased, books were burnt, history re-written, memories altered. All this was done in the name of the greater good, all of this was done to narrow the bandwidth of human emotion. The algorithms at the heart of the Authority drive it tirelessly onwards. This benevolent dictatorship of the collective will is standardizing what it means to be human and deviation from this norm is no longer acceptable.
